The Heart Behind The Brand
A Good Boy Named Gus

At Good Boy Gus Leatherworks, every piece of leather tells a story, and ours begins with a loyal companion named Gus.

Named in honor of my French Bulldog, Gus was by my side from the very first stitch. He was more than a pet, he was my best friend, my shop partner, and the heart behind the craft.

When he passed away from cancer, I knew his legacy had to live on in the work we do every day.

What Our Clients Say
Matt D.

I ordered a custom journal cover for my Moleskin planner, and I was blown away from the start! The craftsmanship is beautiful, the leather feels amazing in hand, and the attention to detail is second to none.  I’ve been using it daily since it arrived and it is still as good as the first day. It’s rare to find products made with this kind of pride anymore.

John D.

I’ve been in law enforcement for over 15 years, and have gone through my share of badge wallets. I finally decided to ordered a custom wallet for myself and reached out to Good Boy Gus Leatherworks. The leather is thick, the stitching is flawless, and you can tell it was made by someone who actually cares. Finally, a wallet that will stand the rigors of the job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Leather is a natural material created from the hide of animals, primarily cows, goats, sheep, and pigs. It is tanned to make it durable, flexible, and resistant to decay.

We offer a wide variety of leathers including:

  • Full-Grain Leather: The highest quality leather, retaining its natural texture and imperfections.

  • Top-Grain Leather: A slightly lower grade than full-grain, but still very durable and smooth.

  • Vegetable-Tanned Leather: Tanned using natural plant-based materials, ideal for custom tooling and a more rustic look.

  • Chrome-Tanned Leather: Tanned with chromium salts, providing a softer, more flexible material with a bright color.

  • Suede: A soft, velvety finish made from the underside of the hide.

The best leather depends on the project you’re working on. For example:

  • For heavy-duty items like belts or bags, full-grain or top-grain leather is ideal.

  • For a more supple, flexible feel, chrome-tanned leather might be the right choice.

  • If you want a more rustic, natural look with customizable options, vegetable-tanned leather is perfect.

Yes! We specialize in custom leather goods. Whether it’s a custom wallet, belt, bag, or even a special item with personalized tooling or embossing, we can bring your vision to life. Simply send us your ideas, and we’ll work with you to create a one-of-a-kind piece.

Leather is durable, but it does require some care:

  • Clean: Use a damp cloth to wipe off dirt or stains. Avoid using harsh chemicals.

  • Condition: Regularly apply a leather conditioner to keep it soft and prevent cracking.

  • Protect: Store your leather items in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or moisture.

Since our leather items are custom-made to your specifications, we do not accept returns or exchanges. However, if there is a defect or problem with the craftsmanship, please contact us within 30 days, and we will make it right.

Since all our products are handmade, turnaround times may vary. We’ll provide specific details, including the estimated timeline, when you place your order.
